Boxing Day Shopping
Christmas has come and gone in a papery haze and now it’s time to get down to business. Boxing Day, the one day of the year that all fashionistas look forward to is quickly approaching. Here’s my how to guide to get you in and out of the mall in record time with the best finds!
1. Make a List and Check it Twice
Boxing Day is busy and overwhelming. To simplify the madness make a list of items that you really need and avoid the nasty habit of buying things just because they're on sale!! Once you know what you want have an idea of what they're worth –that means knowing the regular price and sale history of the store you’re going to. For example I never buy anything regular price at Club Monaco because they have a large stock selection and amazing sales! Whereas places like Anthropologie rarely have sales and their stock sells out quickly, so it’s good to go early so you can nab your size!
2. Go Early
There’s no sense in going Boxing Day Shopping if you’re leaving the house at noon. If you want to get good deals and sizes you have to go first thing. My super strategy? After writing your list of needed items, make a game plan. That means finding out where all the items you want are, and then looking up the store hours for each location. Remember stores typically open earlier than their regularly posted hours, so it’s always a good idea to call and find out when they open on Boxing Day.
3. Try it on or Know the Return Policy
Sometimes a good deal means a very busy changing room –so either be prepared to wait in line or take an educated guess and learn the stores return policy. If you can exchange or return then go for the item without trying it on. If not, better wait or forgo the item all together.
4. Learn the Alternatives
If you’re not big on crowds, waking up early or can’t find your size in store, go home and go online! Many stores have great websites now and sometimes even free shipping. Boxing day shopping in the comfort of your own home, what could be better??!!
5. Have Fun!
The best advice? Don’t take boxing day shopping too seriously. I treat it like a bonus –if I find amazing deals and get items I need - awesome, if I don’t then I’m sure I’ll have many other opportunities to find those items on sale later in the New Year. No biggie!
Wishing you a boxing day filled with good finds and great deals!
